The Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) is an international, nonprofit scholarly society founded in 1975. 4S fosters interdisciplinary and engaged scholarship in social studies of science, technology, and medicine (a field often referred to as STS). technology, or medicine in relation to their social contexts. As dangerous currents intensify within and across our societies, the need for critical scholarship also intensifies, and becomes ever more difficult. In the coming year, we’ll need to redouble our efforts to understand and make positive differences in our many worlds through research, education, and practice. In 2019, 4S will be working on many projects intended to refresh its organizational structure, capacities, and mission. The goal, in a word, is regeneration—within and through 4S as an organization and STS as a scholarly field. The general call for 4S 2019 NOLA participation is now open! Innovations, Interruptions, Regenerations invites presentations, panels and other events that are innovative in form and content. After well-attended and inspiring events at the meetings in Denver, Boston, and Sydney, 4S NoLa will hold its fourth STS Making and Doing program. The call for contributions to that will be sent out with the regular call for papers. Can’t wait?
