with regular freezing temperatures as we entered late fall, i realized if i wanted to take the boat out for a float test before the lakes froze over,  i would need some propulsion. so i consulted the stock pile, and found that i had the wood on hand to make a pair of ten foot narrow bladed oars. they are a bit heavier in douglas fir than clear spruce, and i wanted to leave them thick, so they could be used to pole in the shallows, and take a bit of a beating. for sailing, i will likely build very fine spruce oars, that will break down for easy for best video quality, make sure the settings are turned up to hd.   as the days grew shorter and shorter, and fall made itself apparent, i knew i wasn’t going to sail the boat before winter arrived. but there would likely be enough time to get the boat on the water for a bit of rowing. to do this, i needed to finish up the many small things to begin with, i needed an aft seat, which was fairly straightforward to construct.  i also needed to apply the protective bras* st*ips to the keel, beaching st*ips, and outwales.  i would also need to install the lifting points, which are bolted through the keel. these proved to be very useful, as i am able to  i also at this time attached the rudder hardware, and oarlocks.  i ordered a small boat trailer kit, and as*embled it myself, and hoisted the boat onto it.  i also built a pair of long narrow oars, which i will describe the making of at a later point.  as the exterior of the hull drew to a close, i was eager to get started on the sole (which in a house would be the floor). i started by making a template of one half of the sole area which i found on my lofting. next, i layed-out the individual boards which are as i had mahogany on hand, i went with that. it is strong, relatively lightweight, and complements the woods already used on the boat. after each plank was fit and the desired gaps achieved, i connected them into panels using mahogany battens and copper rivets.
