Upon completion of the course, I have learned many important skills as well as gained some important insights about technology. As noted in other blogs, I came into this clas* with strong opinions about the negative effects that technology has in the clas*room. Many people note that technology infringes upon the development of social skills. Dually noted, people are concerned that technology is a distraction in the clas*room. However, this clas* has helped me to develop a growth mindset regarding technology, as opposed to my previous closed My first major take away that I have gained from this course is that technology can be a good way to engage your students. Smart Board activities and apps can be fun ways to engage your students, especially those who struggle to pay attention in clas*. Interactive slides and social media can also be useful tools in retaining student attention. My second major insight gained from this clas* was that technology is a great professional development tool to collaborate with other educators. Specifically social media, I was interested in the many ways that educators can connect and share ideas. I had heard of educators using social media to connect with parents, but I had never heard of it used this way. I am excited to make my professional social media to share ideas and gather ideas. I currently use pinterest to gain ideas but I am open to branching out to other platforms. Lastly, I have learned that it is important to understand and accommodate for all students. As a future special education teacher, I understand the importance of accommodating for disabilities. Apps such as speak it and other text to voice apps can be essential tools. However, it is also important to accommodate for student's interests. If you have students who learn best and thrive using technology then it is important to incorporate some technology into your instruction. With all of this in mind, I am excited to take this new found knowledge and apply it to my future clas*room.
