Anarchist ideas about society without domination and exploitation are closely linked to the history of the workers' movement and social movements. In various countries of the world - from Germany to Spain to Argentina - anarchist movements took on mas* character at the beginning of the 20th century. In Germany alone, in 1920, more than 100,000 people took part in the anarcho-syndicalist trade union movement. Fascism, Bolshevism and World War II meant the destruction of this old anarchist movement and its organizations. In post-war Europe, anarchism hardly played a role anymore. With the revolt of 1968, anarchist ideas became more present again and have since then to be found in various forms in social movements. And the anarcho-syndicalism anarchists are not concerned with overthrowing the world - even if that is often claimed. Our goal is a society based on the freedom of the individual as well as on social equality: the riches produced should benefit not only a few, but all. Accordingly, we oppose any kind of suppression based on se*, skin color or se*uality and are enemies of any dictatorship - even the state communist. Mikhail Bakunin formulated the 19th century anarchist viewpoint as follows: We are convinced that freedom without socialism means privilege and injustice, and socialism without freedom means sl*very and brutality. The former is experienced day by day in capitalism, and the second is the deterrent story of the attempt to build a socialist society through total control of the state, economy and society.
