In truth, I sometimes miss the smell of the wind-blown brine of the Pacific, the pungent fragrance of the chaparral that covers the hills and canyons and the airy eucalyptus trees that bud and flower twice a year. I miss the beautiful juxtaposition of aridity and water, the But on a dry and cloudless summer morning like this one today, I can’t imagine going back for good to the desert . In California I learned to love flowers and stole whatever grew wild against alley fences. I picked Jacaranda flowers all spring when I was eleven and kept a fresh water glas* filled with their periwinkle blooms.  I pulled big sturdy poppies and hollyhocks that grew around neighbors’ trash cans but had less luck keeping them fresh in the hot summers. In New England I learned to design with flowers and came to know so many other flower lovers who were kindred spirits. I don’t have to steal flowers anymore. I am privileged to be able to buy them, apply my art to them and let them go. For twenty five years Bow Street Flower’s mission has been to create garden style arrangements with the most lovely flowers available from all over the world, and from locally fa*med or foraged materials. When I took over fifte*n years ago, the only thing that Every arrangement that goes out for delivery is custom designed to suit either the sender or the recipient; every stem is carefully arranged to emphasize it’s unique place in the garden and it’s relationship to the other flowers. My hope always is that my flowers Hitchco*k’s clas*ic film Vertigo.
