    Drinking Water safety throughout the world is a large problem. It is the cause of millions of deaths annually throughout the world. In Cambodia, this problem is especially prevalent with the majority of the population without access to safe water. More than half of Cambodians access their water from contaminated sources, because of a lack of knowledge and resources. They have proven that by improving the quality of water in a household greatly reduces diarrheal disease. There are many forms and types of water purification; one particular type has been tested in a controlled trial to help prove the link between contaminated water and diarrheal disease. This is the ceramic filter that is produced locally that is also produced and distributed by other Non-profit organizations. Scientist wanted to perform a controlled study to evaluate how effectively the water treatment system would help prevent diarrheal disease. As a major factor in illness and disease, they believed that by intervening on a random Cambodian village and tracking health symptoms, they would be able to more clearly link treated water to better health. Because piped water systems are a thing of the distant future, scientists believe that positive results from a water filtration system will help short term health care as the possibility for piped water approaches. It is a temporary fix until further resources are available. Their hypothesis stated that the families with treated water would have less report of watery stools in comparison with those of untreated water. They were also confident that these positive results would help boost confidence of the natives to switch to water purification tools.
