The Committee is dedicated to developing efficient capital markets and ensuring the stability of the financial system. The Committee on Capital Markets Regulation is an independent 501(c)(3) research organization, financed by contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations. The Committee’s membership includes thirty-six leaders drawn from across the financial sector, including banks, broker-dealers, as*et managers, private funds and insurance companies. Leading figures from the academic community The Committee Co-Chairs are R. Glenn Hubbard, Dean of Columbia Business School, and John L. Thornton, Chairman of the Brookings Institution. The Committee’s President is Hal S. Scott, Emeritus Nomura Professor of International Financial Systems at Harvard Law School (HLS) and Chairman and President of the Program on International Financial Systems. Founded in 2006, the Committee undertook its first major report on the U.S. capital markets at the request of U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Henry M. Paulson.
