the ecu*enical pharmaceutical network (epn) is an international faith-based. to support churches and church health systems provide and promote just and compas*ionate quality pharmaceutical services. our vision is to be a valued global partner for just compas*ionate quality pharmaceutical services for all. in 1981, the christian medical commission (cmc) of the world council of churches (wcc) as*igned a pharmaceutical adviser to provide technical support in the area of pharmaceuticals to church health programmes, particularly in africa. in the year 2000, the group of church-based organizations supported by the adviser agreed to become a network. epn was registered as a non-governmental organization in church-based organizations are active in health care delivery in many parts of the world and particularly in developing countries. up to 40% of health services in the rural areas of most african countries are provided by church health facilities. medicines from faith-based pharmaceutical supply organizations reach between 25% and 60% of the population in sub-saharan africa. the majority of our members are faith-based organizations (fbos) that provide healthcare to communities in the most marginalized and remote areas where national government health services are limited. epn has 20 church health as*ociations (chas) and 23 drug supply organisations (dsos), 28 church health institutions (chis), 31 individual members and 11 other organizations, making a total of 115 members spread over. medicines are a cornerstone of many medical treatments, for diagnosis and disease prevention. the knowledge to order, manage, store, and. dispense medicines is key to their successful use. epn seeks to work with church systems to ensure that their pharmaceutical services are. efficient and effective and guarantee availability of affordable quality medicines to all who need them.
