Honorary Medal of the As*ociation of American Libraries (or rather, its divisions As*ociation for Library Service to Children), presented annually in the United States to the most outstanding illustrated children in 1938. Its name was due to the famous British artist, author and illustrator of the 19th century, Randolph Caldecott (Randolph Caldecott). The design of the medal was designed by American sculpture Rene Paul Chambellan. The front side of the medal depicts the scene on the cover of The Diverting History of John Gilpin, illustrated by Randolph Caldecott of William Cooper (William Cowper), the hero of the poem John Gilpin riding a galloping horse.
