welcome to the fire protection as*ociation of new zealand. formed in 1975, the fire protection as*ociation new zealand inc (fpanz) is new zealand’s peak body for fire safety.  we provide information, services and education to the fire protection industry and the community at large.  our mission is to be the voice of the fire protection community and to continually expand professional expertise to reduce the impact of fire as a not-for-profit member body, we are here to work with our members, government and the wider community for continuous improvement in regulations, standards, education, awareness, products and services for the protection of life, property and the environment from fire. the fire protection as*ociation of nz (fpanz) is pleased to announce of their project to recover and dispose of halon & bcf extinguishers from commercial users and private owners. this is a continuation of the successful work undertaken over many years previously by halon. we are encouraging members of the public to check their boats, cars, workshops, caravans and planes to see if they have a yellow. extinguisher and if so to call in to one of our many member sites so these units can be replaced. there will be a small cost to change, however both the public and the environment will benefit as we can be sure new systems will operate in event of a fire and the impact on the ozone layer will be reduced the servicing of halon extinguishers is not available and there are fears that systems and hand extinguishers have not been serviced and may fail in the event of a fire. just like smoke detectors fire extinguishers should be checked annually by a fpanz certified agent find out how to become a member of the fpa  and obtain some of the member benefits and savings on offer to our members via
