our location: 2605c battleford rd., mississauga, on l5n 3s4. in school, i was an athlete, participating in swimming, skiing, hockey and football.  but, in the intervening years between then and entering the work force, i really let myself go.  from an ideal weight of 160 lbs, i had ballooned up to 255 by the spring of 2001. truthfully, i had struggled with my weight all my life.  the cdc claims that a 9-year old boy, today, in the united states is, on average, 61.7 lbs (as of 2017).  in 1976, at 9 years old, i remember stepping on a scale and seeing the number 109.  to say i was chubby is an understatement.  i was teased and ridiculed most of my school years for being an overweight kid.  “fatso” was a label i was as i grew, i became disciplined.  i began “jogging” and playing sports, and would go through phases where it seemed i was successful in managing to control my eating.  of course, my weight would drop as a result of my efforts.  then, the inevitable day would come when the “diet” came to an end, and i would return to my old eating habits.  my weight would increase, yet again, and then – because it was all i knew –  i would, once more, turn to a diet and exercise to “solve” my problem.  but nothing was really resolving, because nothing was changing.  “nothing changes if nothing changes!”  let me tell you, i know that one well, from personal experience! i would learn, years later, that the conditions of “overweight” and “obesity” are more complex that we have historically believed them to be.  not everyone who presents as overweight or obese suffers from the same particular subset of issues.  in fact, there are 4 different clas*ifications of “problem” eaters.  note: i define a “problem” eater as someone who eats in such a way as to cause them some level of distress and concern.  “problem” eaters need not necessarily be overweight, but they still may want to change their that being said, most problem eaters are, in fact, overweight.
