lately i have been running benchmarks on storage solutions that i have built myself using open source file systems such as zfs. i needed to compare the performance on the platform when i incremented or used different types of disks, changed raid levels, added ssds for caching, etc… with that in mind i started looking for a good benchmarking utility that could provide me with the information needed to evaluate luns that i created in my openindiana server using comstar. my openindiana server which was built last year originally had 2x1g networks ports. since then i added a 4x1g nic because i wanted to dedicate two ports for iscsi traffic and have the original two ports i have been upgrading some vmware clusters lately and i figured i would put together some steps that you should normally follow when doing so. this post is more of a guideline rather than being very detailed as compared to my other posts. with that said, let’s get started 1. the first thing that you normally update should be vcenter and it is a good idea to always take a snapshot of the vm before doing in this article i will go over the process of installing proftpd so that we can enable ftp support on our zfs file shares. the reason why i decided to create this article was because i have multiple network adapters on my server and i wanted my network shares to be accessible via ftp on multiple ip addresses. getting this to work entailed manually modifying some of the configuration parameters. let’s go intro: in this article i will go over how to configure routing between multiple vlans by using our pfsense router and a switch that supports 802.1q. on our pfsense router we will configure our lan port with multiple sub interfaces and as*ign each one to a certain vlan. the uplink port on the switch side connecting to our pfsense router will be set to tag all the traffic using the 802.1q protocol. this intro: it has been a while since i made a blog post. i have been busy playing with some new toys
