In approximately 740 BC, the prophet Isaiah stood trembling before God, who sat on His throne just a few feet away. Heavenly beings called out praises above Him. The temple shook and filled with smoke. In the presence of God, Isaiah cried out, “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” In response to Isaiah’s awareness of his unworthiness, one of the heavenly beings touched his mouth with a hot coal, signifying the cleansing of his sins. God then spoke and asked, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Isaiah had one moment, one encounter with God and his perspective shifted. He responded, “Here I am! Send me.” Isaiah’s experience shows us what can happen in just one encounter with God. As we move toward God, we are exposed to His holiness, justice, and mercy. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are offered forgiveness of sins and new life with Him. His desire for us is to proclaim His gospel to all people. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, and the knowledge and truth of God’s Word, As we lay our personal priorities at the throne of God, the question remains the same.
