Inclusive STEM Hackathon is a 24-hour hackathon where blind and visually impaired developers, industry professionals and CS students come together to work on exciting and challenging problems. Traditionally, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) has been closed off to this community due to various factors including substantial visual content, inaccessibility of study material and attitudinal barriers. Recent advances in technology, however, makes it possible for blind students to pursue several STEM careers on an equal basis as others, and several people are currently working as tech professionals. At I-Stem, our vision is to empower blind students and professionals to become innovators, not just consumers of technology. We do this through hands-on activities and initiatives, training, mentorship, technical research and a strong community. We also work closely with universities and corporates to help them realise the potential of people with disabilities and include them in their organisations. Besides the core team, the I-Stem Community consists of nearly 100 people with and without disabilities who are pas*ionate about equal opportunities for all.
