Hiking Pu’u Kawiwi to Mount Ka’ala — kenjiSAITO |
Description |
Hiking Pu’u Kawiwi to Mount Ka’ala started off in Waianae Valley where we p ed the irrigation system and followed the fence line as we pushed our way through the shoulder high California gr with rocks underneath our footing as we made the approach to Kawiwi Ridge that is made up of brittle rocks that gets aggressively steeper as it approaches the summit. After summiting, we continued our traverse on the heavily pronounced exposed rocky ridge line before p ing the summits of No Name or Teddy Bear Peaks, Tiki Ridge and Three Poles before tackling the final hilly climb to the highest flat topped summit on the island known as Mount Ka’ala. Our intended route down was through the Bolohead Ridge but Mother Nature and Father Time had their say in our plans, so we returned back to Three Poles and continued on the Waianae Ka’ala Trail to exit the valley. Hiking Mo ua Middle Ridge to Kalihi Saddle (Powerlines) — kenjiSAITO [censored]
|
Description |
Hiking Mo ua Middle Ridge to Kalihi Saddle (Powerlines) started off on the Kamananui Valley Trail in Mo ua Valley where the three mile trail covered old carriage roads and gr y trails that soon intersected with the Kulana’ahane Junction where I made the eroded ascent up Mo ua Middle Ridge bathed in clouds and rain showers until summiting Pu’u Keahi a Kahoe where I descended the cloud and rain soaked ridge of the Ko’olau Summit Ridge Trail p ing the abandoned microwave tower, Tripler and Bowman Summits before dropping into Kalihi Saddle. The clouds and rain departed but stiff winds kept me company on the crumbly ridge line as I p ed the slide, rock triangles, tabletop and witchs hat before exiting the valley through the powerlines trail. Hiking Kaena Point Tracking Station to King Kong Ridge — kenjiSAITO |
Description |
Hiking Kaena Point Tracking Station to King Kong Ridge started off with a bumpy and muddy 4×4 ride up from the Kaena Point Tracking Station where we got dropped off up just past Pea Flats. We hiked up the short Mokuleia Trail before gaining the Waianae Summit Trail and pausing briefly at the Mokuleia Overlook to take in the views of Makua Valley before continuing on the fenced ridgeline and eventually summiting Three Corners with her panoramic views of Makua, Makaha and Mokuleia Valleys. We then dropped off the overgrown ridge to walk briefly on the road before dropping down onto King Kong Ridge, pausing again at the namesake stone before descending down into the valley where we dipped into the Makaha Icy Ponds before finishing our hike.
