Bitka kod Bistrice Lesne je Novela. First published in the journal Knizevna republika 1923g. Later the writer included it in Novela Battle of Bistrica Lesna shows the first world war, warfare of Croatian domobranates for other interests, and their suffering in this. This work, with its theme and method of treatment, provokes outrage against the war and condemnation of every war as a social phenomenon. The novel's work takes place in a wider area: it starts in Zagroje villages, continues in the city of Zagreb and ends in Galicia, the eastern Austro-Hungarian province. The time of the event is the first world war of 1914-1918, and in the retrospective, Novela Bitka at Bistrica Lesna begins with an introduction in which her topic is communicated. So we find out that the novella was written in honor of the seven domobranians who were killed on the eastern front, all written in the way that war news articles reported on the death of soldiers on the warrior, with a lot of praise for their courage, their victim for their homeland, with a reminder of the famous past. This seemingly elevated speech, which fits on obituaries full of pathetic phrases, is actually ironical, especially if we remember that these homebounds were not killed for their homeland of Croatia, but for Hungary, with which Croatia was bound by the 1868 settlement. After introductory remarks, the novel returns us in the past and talks about life in Zagorje and Prigorje villages from feudal times until the beginning of the First World War: life is terribly difficult, the country is weak and requires special effort in processing, helping the peasant, nowhere, and behind the neck of his country with numerous officers, gardens, armies, courts. They all demand their taxes and taxes and fines.
