Title: | Lou Wilke | Could be improved |
Description: | Early in 2015, I quit my part time job to focus on two of my main passions; studying for an Interior Design Diploma, and to start up my photography business. I've always had a love for photography and bought my first grown up camera about nine years ago.  It was a second hand Nikon D40 with a kit lens, but I loved it!  From there, I took photos of everything and everyone!  It was the smile on people's faces when they relived a moment or a memory through the picture I'd taken, that really started to fuel my interest. I moved to Cyprus in July 2012 and that was when it all really happened for me.  We had a family photoshoot done by Danny from Tartan Heart Photography in the November.  Naturally we got chatting about photography and I told him that I really wanted to learn how to use my camera and take better photos.  I did a beginners course with him the following April and within a year I'd sold the Nikon, and upgraded to a Canon 70D.  I started working for him not long after the course - assisting as 2nd photographer at weddings, beach shoots, newborn sessions and  evening functions.  I learnt so much during this time and will be eternally grateful to Danny.  Now that he's moved to a new location, I still occasionally work with him, and he offers me a huge amount of encouragement, support, mentoring and often the odd lecture! It was after much deliberation and soul searching...I decided to go for it, bite the bullet and start up on my own.  I was incredibly nervous and anxious about how I would be received.  I'm still learning, I don't have 20 years experience, I don't have a studio, I don't have a team and I'm still building up my equipment.  But, by focussing on the type of photography that is closest to my heart, making time for myself to continue to learn, and most of all by having fun at the same time to help create memories for the families that I work with...it was honestly the best decision I ever made.  Realising that you have to start somewhere, take the leap, listen to those around you that have faith in you, and understanding that you don't have to be the master of your craft on day one.  Huge lessons for me. I'm also a mum to two crazy kids, Gabriella and Freddie, who both are now so at home with the  camera in their face!  I'm a massive foodie who loves cooking, drinking red wine and entertaining friends.  When I'm not out with the camera for fun or work, or spending time with my family and friends - I can often be found in the garden with a paint brush in hand, up cycling a piece of furniture. |
