LABORATORY OF SOCIAL ART (LSS) is an interdisciplinary and international project that uses public space as a place of participation and cooperation. The idea of ​​the project is the joint action of the artist and animator with the local community and reversing the role of the artist - from the creator - into a teacher and art guide, while the residents - from pas*ive observers - into active recipients and creators of culture. Through local activities, artistic residences and research, the project aims to build a dialogue between the local community living in the districts of Lublin and artists and culture animators from Poland and abroad. Artists representing various fields of art will undertake activities involving the inhabitants of Lublin districts, with the active support of local cultural animators. The result of the project is the implementation of activities involving local communities in creating vibrant public spaces in the districts of Lublin, changing the surroundings and in social and cultural life. The Social Art Laboratory was established as a result of long-term cooperation with artists from Eastern and Western Europe and the need for artists and the local community. The first edition of the program took place in 2014 as one of the Lublin events which was created thanks to the involvement of creative communities and local governments of eastern Poland, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the National Center for Culture. In 2015, the program was dedicated only to Polish artists, while in 2016 it was implemented as COMMUNITY ARTS LAB (CAL) and an international interdiciplinary project focusing on participation in cooperation.
