As a child, my parents reminded me how fortunate I was and encouraged me to help others who were less fortunate. As part of my school project, I volunteered at a local Rescue Mission to help others who needed a hand or a friendly smile. Since I was just a kid, how much could I really do anyways? I could participate in the chores to as*ist the Rescue Mission, but this place was newly constructed and really nice to begin with. I helped organize donated items as they came in from various sources, but that task was completed fairly quickly as I could stack up the rolls of paper towels and diapers for only so long. I entertained them with my hobbies such as making balloon an*mals. However, it was still hard for me to imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes. Aside from donating my time, I wanted to donate some of my money to help out any little way that I could. However, I didn’t want to donate money from my parents since that money was not earned by me. So what’s a kid to do? Coincidentally, I attended a summer camp where they taught children to be entrepreneurs. I learned how to take materials from around the house and combine them with materials purchased from local stores. I made jewelry, necklaces, bracelets, lava lamp bottles, origami creations and other home-made items that we sold to other students and parents. While this was a one day summer sale, it gave me a taste of my own business and the satisfaction of adding value to create a profit three times the cost of my materials. To start, my humble website is a simple website with a few “custom” hand-made items to sell. I invested the profits from my summer sale into my new business. I plan to donate all of the profits to the Rescue Mission. My website may not seem like Amazon now, but hey, I’m just a kid and it’s just a start.
