In clas* we viewed our clas*mates presentations. The presentations have the actual presentation, a videolicious, and survey monkeys. The first presentation was about Big Business. We learned that the people who had a lot of money, also had a lot of power. People like Rockefeller, Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and Pullman who were extremely wealthy businessmen had influence over global markets, and often over government decisions. Low paid employees often went on strike and complained about their low wages. While this is going on, the rich business owners focused on expanding their company and trade to foreign places in order to make more profit. Another group we learned about was Immigration of Europe to America. This topic showed that Immigrants came to America through Ellis Island, the Golden Door and other ports. We learned that in order for them to become citizens, the Europeans had to go through a degrading process. The Americans were cruel to the immigrants because they believed that the immigrants were poor. They were also cruel because they felt the immigrants took their jobs. They felt that a immigrant shouldn’t get a job over a citizen born in America. The next presentation we viewed was on Immigration from Asia to America. Thousands of immigrants from Japan and China entered the United States. When they arrived to America, they had to do many tests in order to stay at America. A law was pas*ed that made immigrants not The fourth group that presented was European Imperialism. Europe believed that America was weak and they can take some of America’s goods. King Leopold saw how valuable rubber was and decided that he was going to try and make a profit off of it. Leopold worked Africans to make rubber. Throughout these events European countries were abusing the African countries and they had all the power. The fifth group that presented was Native Americans and the west. The American government forced the Natives Americans. The Natives now had to move away from their land they had for years and go to a place with horrible conditions.
