I chose these photographs for neutral environments as i felt that this way the focus would be on the overlaid imagery and text. therefore the base images do not bias an audience as a church or war memorial might. for example, it takes longer to work out what the message within the These photographs i took to use as text and imagery within my final montage experiments. They are taken from my Family Bible that can be traced back to at least the 1840s and has stayed in the family from its original owners in southern Germany. I liked the fact that it has a strong family connection as it makes it more personal and it also has some very detailed illustrations and printed texts. I began to get interested in the idea of photography collage or montage as I progressed through this project. To create some further inspiration and explore other areas that I had not yet looked at I decided to look at the work of other artists. Two artists that I particularly took interest in were Hannah Hoch and John Heart Field. I particularly liked the way that political tension and social issues was at the heart of the work. It got me thinking about the actual context of a piece. What is the message? Who is the audience? Who is the aggression being aimed at? In this case it was the rise of Nazi politics in 1930s Germany.
