WE EMPOWER STUDENTS TO SUCCEED THROUGH OUR BLENDED LEARNING EXPERIENCE- Ruthie Mersburgh spent a week in Washington DC sharing about her experiences with Childhood Cancer.  She attended the Childhood Cancer Summit, hosted by Rep. Mike McCaul and Rep. Mike Kelly, two sponsors of the STAR Act that will help fund pediatric cancer research and survivorship. Ruthie then attended CureFest, where she and a team of advocates spent the afternoon on Capitol Hill sharing their stories with Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD), Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), and Senator Cory Gardner (RI). The team also participated in the CureFest Night of Golden Lights, a walk in memory of children who have lost their battles with cancer. Ruthie and her family also testified at a very empowering patient-driven meeting on chemotherapy-induced hearing loss with the FDA, where Ruthie was able to share her story with the FDA on living with severe high-pitch hearing loss. Ruthie is an example of HTA’s Core Values in action: Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication, Creativity and Character. Well done, Ruthie!
