The Light-Controlled Bird was the first lab we did in this kit, so initially we were pretty clueless. After spending what seemed like forever just finding our components, we connected them to the board with ease. The part that (embarras*ingly) tripped us up was connecting the wires. Beyond connecting one part of the grid to another, we weren't sure what to do. So, we read through the directions again until we figured out where they needed to go. Rather than tucking them into the spring, we simply placed the wire into the hole in the center of each spring. This lab demonstrated both the effect of switches on an audible, visible or tangible outcome and the importance of double-checking components before setup. The outcome of this lab was audible, and a lack of sound when a switch was not turned on provided proof that the electricity could not travel through the switch. Our issue with the 100 ohm resistor (described more in the next section) taught us that taking the time to check to make sure we have all the correct components before connecting them saves more time in the long run.
