The dilatory functioning of the home government hampered Pottinger too. In front of the nearly violin shaped opal green sheet of water known as Pokfulam reservoir the first of its kind in the colony and now only a midget in comparison with the main source of supply at Tytam. The vicinity of the reservoir is an ideal spot for an open-air lunch. Near by are the palatial quarters of the Catholic Fathers - Sanatorium de Bethany and Mission de Nazareth. The road is a beautiful one, well-shaded in many places by tree, on the left hand towering Peaks and on the right the glas*y sea. Aberdeen is a quaint little Chinese village opposite to which is the island of Applichau.  One will be struck with the many snug little nooks that are used for bathing in the summer, by the strange formations of some of the rocks and by the caves sunk into them at various places through the wave-action of untold centuries. Here and there fishing boats are to be seen and if one has the good-fortune to come across the Aberdeen fishing fleet coming or going it is a sight to be rememmbered.  Rounding the corner towards Hongkong will be seen some of the forts which have been planned on a scale of thoroughness little dreamed of
