Sawyer is a casual yet chic new American restaurant and bar located in the heart of Ballard’s burgeoning restaurant scene on 22nd just off Ballard Ave. Featuring floor to ceiling windows, exposed beams and cozy booths, the renovated 1920s sawmill includes a main dining room, Designed for family style sharing, our menu is made up of large and small plates with the level of creativity and quality you would expect from a fine dining establishment, but with the approachability and comfort of a neighborhood staple. Sawyer’s menu is inspired by food that people crave, with a focus on technique, whimsy, and comfort. Ballard was a prominent hub of early Seattle’s lumber industry and the name “Sawyer” alludes to the building’s history as a sawmill. It conveys an approachable and Sawyer is headed by Chef Mitch Mayers, a Washington state native, named one of Zagat’s 2018 “Eight Under the Radar Chefs to Know in Seattle”. The two-time Cochon555 Seattle winner draws from his extensive culinary experience, both formal and casual, to create inspired, light-hearted and tasty dishes. Mitch graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and Cornell’s Hotel School, interned at the Herbfa*m, and went on to work for Hillstone Restaurant Group which landed him in Denver for several years. He moved back home to Seattle in 2014 and worked his way up the ranks at Lark becoming John Sundstrom’s chef de cuisine.
