SchoolNet SA’s purpose is to act as a catalyst and an enabler of change for the education system in order to contribute to effective educational outcomes and diversity in the South African learning environment. SchoolNet SA is at the forefront of implementation strategies in digital education in South African schools. It has developed a successful implementation strategy as a result of its experience and an*lysis of a wide range of past digital implementation projects. SchoolNet SA was established as a national organisation thanks to the efforts of volunteer educators and innovative thinkers in school 2018 has been a busy year for SchoolNet SA. The Technical Support Specialists based at Telkom Connected Schools in Zwide, Eastern Cape and Garankuwa, Gauteng have been using the last few weeks of school to expose learners to basic coding concepts. Learners have been working through the Minecraft themed Hour of Code tutorials which provide a fun, free, accessible introduction to coding using a series of simple drag-and-drop puzzles that get progressively more challenging. These prizes are awarded to teachers, schools and organisations that are using digital tools in innovative ways to ensure education for vulnerable groups of people.
