bringing hope, possibility, and opportunity to new yorkers for 40 years. s:us and partners awarded funding to develop 2,400 units of affordable housing in brooklyn. s:us joins nyc mural arts project to create a community mural in brooklyn. services for the underserved (s:us) envisions a city where everyone has a roof over their head, is healthy, productive and can enjoy the social connections that create a life of purpose. founded in 1978, s:us works with 35,000 individuals and their families every year to create pathways to rich and productive lives by offering housing, employment, skills-building, treatment, and rehabilitation services. in the belief that all individuals deserve the opportunity to live a life of dignity, sus honors the personal choices of people with more than 56,000 people live in the nyc shelter system. almost half are children. sus is turning back the tide. 3,200 housing units in brooklyn, queens, manhattan and the bronx are owned, leased and managed by sus. another 1,000 housing units will go sixty to eighty percent of people living with mental illness are unemployed. over 4% of veterans across the country are unemployed, and there are almost 1,000 homeless veterans in nyc. sus urban fa*ms uses horticulture to improve wellness and help participants achieve their personal and professional goals.
