The government vend was opened with the approval of local AAP MLA and without any consent from local residents. The liquor shop has become a public nuisance and a catalyst of lawlessness in the area. Snatching, eve teasing and petty crimes have become daily news in the locality. Women find it difficult to even venture out and the liquor vend has adversely impacted the minds of kids and students.When local residents of Burari took up the campaign to get this shop removed, the MLA assured that he would close the theka. But the cheap manner in which the Aam Aadmi Party MLA cheated the Aam Aadmi, the local residents approached Swaraj Abhiyan and have now requested to take up their campaign more vigorously.Swaraj Abhiyan District President from Delhi North East informed that 'enacting a drama in order to cheat  people, the MLA recommended to the Excise Commissioner to close the liquor vend under section 25 of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2009, knowing very well that as per section 25, the shop can only be closed for 15 days. As expected, the court ordered reopening of liquor vend within 15 days. The cheating has brought the residents back to square one with no relief.'Rajgiri, a local resident from Pradeep Vihar narrated how the liquor shop had made hell out her life. She said, This theta is creating nuisances in our daily life. We need to come for marketing before noon. Even aged women are not safe here. If Government wants to open liquor vends then it should be far from the city. We have our own works to do instead of coming on road to protest always. Government must act to remove this Theka. Two tuition going 9th class students Rashmi and Jyoti came on the stage and shared her pain and agony, We have come here with all courage. Due to this theka we are forced to change our route to tuition. We were waiting for someone to raise this issue, a prime concern for us. We are here to convey that this theka should be removed immediately.  Representatives from some other areas of Delhi too addressed the gathering and narrated how the liquor menace was not limited to any specific area of Delhi but the whole of national capital. They told how similar problems were being faced especially by women in their localities too, where liquor shops have turned into public nuisance. Swaraj Abhiyan has been raising serious concerns at the granting of 399 licenses since Aam Aadmi Party coming to power in Delhi. An ultimatum of September 11 was declared at the JanSunwai to remove the theka at Burari. Anupam, Member of National Working Committee of Swaraj Abhiyan said that the Aam Aadmi Party government too is intoxicated. He said, It is the intoxication of power which has made the government deaf and blind to people's pain and problems. The Delhi government must not think that they have no opposition in Delhi and that they can walk away with any misdeed. Though, BJP and Congress have lost the people's confidence to be a credible opposition, Swaraj Abhiyan will ensure that the government is forced to remain sensitive to the demands of people. Timarpur MLA Pankaj Pushkar said, We need to decide that whether we want to make Delhi as a sharab mandi or a civilized state. When questions are asked in assembly the government puts forward lies. But we are not going to tolerate such nuisances. I will not let Delhi to be a Sharab Mandi, the fight will continue.  The Public Hearing was conducted in the presence of Swaraj Abhiyan leader Ajit Jha. He presented a resolution which was passed by the people of Burari. In this resolution an ultimatum of September 11 was declared at the Jan Sunwai to remove the theka at Burari.Next Jan Sunwai will be in Matiya Mahal on 11 September at 4PM. |  |
