i wait outside the prison. the news said he would be out at noon today. i peer at my watch, “late as usual,” i mutter.  “paul? what are you doing here?” he asks. “oh i figured you would need a ride home.” “but-” “no we’re even. you ripped me off i turned you in. that’s all over now.” he looks into my eye to figure out if i’m lying and gets it wrong. we get in the car and start to talk about how his last ten years were. he tells me about his friends and blah blah blah but i pretend to care. i go through the woods and tell him it’s a shortcut. he tries to stop me but it’s too late. i have the sedative to handle his revolt. i throw him in the trunk so my ride home will be more peaceful. he has no idea what i have planned for him. but he will. i sip my coffee and read the paper. he’s not in there. nobody cares that he’s gone. he has no family or friends outside those prison walls. well except for me. i hear him wake up and he doesn’t seemed all to pleased with his living conditions. i, being a good host, go down to help him feel accommodated. a tooth hits the floor and he stumbles backwards. “does that feel better?” i ask. he says no so i hit him harder. he falls to the ground and quiets down. “ah good, so you’re comfortable.” i say, pleased with my work. “i thought we were even.” he stupidly says. instead of responding, i kick him and tie him to a chair. “we’re not even yet but trust me, by tomorrow we will be.” he screams about money as i walk up stairs and close the door. time to get ready for the real fun. i sharpen the last knife. they’re just props. for now. i take them downstairs and greet my sleeping guest with a punch to the stomach. “good morning sunshine.” i say cheerily. “oh what are you going to cut me up? yeah that seems real fair. you’re just like dad. you could never handle anyone trying to be better than you.” he angrily rants. “jimmy, calm down. you see, you killed my target. that-”
