Joel first met Tina four years ago in Menlo Park, California at a mutual friend's Halloween party. He saw her across the room, dressed in a unicorn onesie and began to believe in fairytales! Being a chocoholic, Tina was naturally attracted to Joel in his M&M costume (i.e. a red M&M T-shirt). They instantly connected over their love for music and their similar small Christian college backgrounds. They remained friends and occasionally saw each other at Sanctuary, the young ad*lts ministry they both attended, over the next year. About a year later, they ran into each other after a Bethel concert in San Jose, and Joel's desire to get to know Tina better grew. Soon after, he planned a BBQ with a bunch of friends, primarily as an excuse to talk to her. They went to a Dierks Bentley concert with some friends a few weeks later and talked throughout the majority of the concert. Their first official date was at La Fiesta in Mountain View, Tina's favorite restaurant! Joel knew he wanted to marry Tina after that first date! Joel met Tina's sisters, brother-in-laws, and nephews after church in San Francisco the next day and hit it off with her family! Tina met Joel's family when they went to Canada for New Years' Eve that year, and they sang together for the first time at his sister Lauren's wedding the next summer! Joel and Tina started officially dating after they went stargazing in Portola Valley on October 2, 2016. (Yes, October has been an eventful month for them!) Tina knew she wanted to marry Joel after seeing him cry at Sanctuary during a video about helping child refugees. Tina really appreciates Joel's amazing cooking skills, his surprising her with chocolate and flowers every month, and his adventurous spirit! She thinks he is the most humble, tender-hearted, and intelligent man she has ever met!
