in the position of the Rector of our alma mater I was again elected on 20 October 2017 by the Academic Senate of the United Kingdom for the period 2018-2022 and I am very glad to continue as a Rector in my work. To all those who supported my vote, I thank you for your trust and support and look forward to further cooperation with my colleagues for the benefit of our university. I am glad to say that after more than four years I can say that Charles University is more audible in the public space, that thanks to its experts and scientific teams it not only presents excellent scientific results but also takes and issues qualified expert opinions on various topics and the problems that simply persuade the public that education and knowledge are inalienable to the fa*m, and that an educated person is less likely to be affected by any demagogy and various extreme views that we have unfortunately increasingly been in our society. In the Middle Ages, universities were the place where the sovereigns went to advise as they perceived them as centers of education, and cooperated closely with them. It seems to me that there is a time when the word of scholars and intellectuals comes back to significance. Some politicians are increasingly meeting with colleagues from the academic community, and they are also discussing them with areas that do not belong directly to their department, ie education, health, culture, and science. In addition, a number of prominent personalities from around the world, great scientists - doctors, economists, philosophers and others, who contribute to the growth of her international prestige, are coming to Charles University. I am happy and I hope that this trend will continue in the future. Dear Colleagues, I would like to as*ure you that I will continue to implement the program I have submitted at my choice and that I will take care of the fulfillment of the University's Long-Term Plan and, in general,
