On the last weekend of 2018, we found ourselves in Bad Münstereifel, where a longer than average Christmas Market blooms by the tinkling River Erft. Every corner we turned, we found the winding river ready to greet us. And from the top of the Kurpark, we enjoyed stunning views of this historical, walled city. A walk through its timbered house-lined lanes is like turning the clock back to a different era. And once the sun set, the town became even more magical with every shop casting its enchanting glow on the river and the brick walls. It was drizzling slightly, and visitors expertly balanced their umbrellas and glas*es of steaming hot gluhwein. We felt giddy from the aromas of freshly bu*tered waffles, pancakes, and other sweet goodies, and bit into a few ourselves. The bluish twilight added to the charm of the trees adorned with Christmas lights and a giant gingerbread man. We climbed the stairs of the Rathaus for a sweeping view of the market, with enchanting Christmas carols in the background.
