we're collecting stories of violence inflicted on women who reject se*ual advances. several years back i was in an emotionally abusive relationship with an extremely controlling and insecure older man. we met when i was 17 and he was 25 and continued dating on and off for four years or so. at the time i thought there was nothing wrong with a ma*ure, intelligent young women dating a “slightly” older man, but looking back on it i realize that he was exhibiting grooming behavior and attempting to mold me into his perfect woman.  he began to criticize my choice of clothes, my hair color ( i dyed it a lot) my makeup (he thought i wore too much) and my choice of friends. it got to the point where i was embarras*ed to go anywhere with him, because he would act sullen and rude until we left, so we would just stay home. he repeatedly broke up with me to go on “dates” with other gi*ls, and then would take me back immediately afterwards. claiming that this was not cheating because we had been on a break. i was a shell of the relatively outgoing person that i normally am. i stopped seeing my friends because i felt humiliated knowing that they couldn’t understand why i stayed. in the last year of our relationship i began working out. i would go for a run by myself, follow along to bodyrock videos on my computer, and go swimming or hiking in the summer, while i was never in terrible shape, i found that my newly found dedication to something gave me confidence and made me feel more like myself. needless to say he hated it. he would sit in the living room while i worked out and sling insults at me. tell me that my arms were jiggling and asking if i was almost done yet. he would intentionally ask me to take him for errands right before my planned run. but i persisted. i slowly stopped doing his errands for him, cleaning up after him, and keeping track of his work schedule for him. i started planning things with the few friends that i still had that didn’t involve him. he was furious.
