HOW TO BE AUTHENTIC ON THE INTERNET In the last year or so there’s been a real uproar on what a blogger (or content creator) should or shouldn’t be doing online. Are we the authentic platform we started as? We all have very firm opinions on the subject, but the question Writing a blog is without doubt my favourite thing in the world. It’s a place to call my own, somewhere I can be completely, I’ve been writing here for over 5 years, and in that time so much has changed. Back in 2012, I’d stand in my back garden with my tripod and self timer; propping myself awkwardly against my parents fence, my side sweeping fringe blowing in the wind whilst taking hundreds of outfit photos. Wonderful You has always been a place for me to share my honesty, but honestly? It’s pretty much always been a platform on which I look ‘my best’. My instagram feed is full of my freshly painted face or my next thought-out outfit. My blog a place to showcase topics I feel are important, but that are portrayed in a way that make me feel most beautiful. It’s a word that makes that ‘best self’ disappear quicker than I could have ever imagined. Hearing the word 'ladylike' can leave a bitter taste in my mouth. It's the age-old restraint applied to women to fit a certain mould - and the one major culprit of squeezing us in to that one limited box? The fashion industry. Right now it can be challenging to be a woman - but its also an empowering time. A time where we can make a change. And so, when H&M got in touch and told me about their #LadyLike campaign I was immediately interested. Their 2-minute video aims to redefine what ladylike has meant in the past; featuring women of all shapes, sizes, ages and backgrounds, it's an opportunity for the fashion industry to make women feel included.
