Following Boulder City Council’s approval of the North Trail Study Area (TSA) Plan in 2016, the City staff has drawn up preliminary plans for development of the Wonderland Lake Open Space area. The plans introduce significant man-made structures into the natural habitat, encroaching on wildlife and turning this beautiful, serene refuge into a recreational & educational hub. Building a 80-90' T-shaped fishing pier jutting straight into the lake from the peninsula A 80-90' wooden boardwalk in the cattails on the north side of the peninsula Building additional trails into the wetlands between Broadway and the Lake Increased parking, bus traffic and a new Nature Center building at the trailhead As residents of the Wonderland Hills community, we are de*ply concerned about this incursion into one of the only untouched natural Wonderland Lake is a wildlife sanctuary–a rare jewel of un-spoiled nature in the city. It is home to a wide variety of birds, water fowl, deer, coyote, fox and many other smaller species. It adjoins a protected wetlands area to the east where additional trail development While we all love enjoying this pristine area for quiet walks or fishing, the proposal could dramatically increase the volume of users and shift the people-wildlife balance towards a more bustling recreational area.  We understand that the city drafted these plans with the good intention to increase the ease of access, educational programs and recreational use. However, once developed, we can never go back.  The city staff is eager to work in partnership with us and to hear your feedback.
